Hinerauoranga

Finished in 2025.
Meaning ‘Woman of Many Wellbeings’
Woven with natural pōkinikini, Pheasant and Pukeko feathers, this kākahu was created as a guardian of health, protection and of the future. There are whales tail embellishments, and the tāniko is woven in vibrant pāua shell colours. I hope when the kākahu is worn the wearer feels protected and supported in their journey of stepping into the future. I hope it also brings to mind those that have gone before, and that memory is one of aroha.
Tāniko patterns used :
Kaokao – for protection
Niho Taniwha – for the story/tellers
Pouhine – for the quest for excellence and the sharing of knowledge.
Pātikitiki - for hospitality and for Memory
This kākahu was commissioned of me by my friend, and I was honoured to be able to work with her and bring her vision to reality. I learnt a lot while weaving, mainly to have faith and trust in the process and the vision. I was thrilled with the end result, which is often not realised until 95% of the work is done. To know that this kākahu will be worn while my friend receives her moko kauae is also incredibly special, and it will add to the korero of ‘Hinerauoranga’.
