A kākahu is a woven cloak, that can be worn to uplift different kaupapa/occasions in a whānau, community, organisation or school. A kākahu is a taonga or treasure, and one that can stay with a whānau for generations.Creating a Kākahu for someone is an incredibly special privilege, and one I do not take lightly.
Each Kete is woven to the customers specifications, and will tell their story. Sometimes the kete is to someone special, sometimes it is to commemorate a special occasion. Sometimes it’s ‘just because’. In my opinion, you can never have too many kete! I have one for every occasion, and they all have a different korero 😊
Muri Aroha means ‘Love is at the back of it’ and that is how I feel about Toi Māori and the mahi that I do. Love is the underlying factor.
Love for mahi raranga, mahi whatu, love for my whakapapa who I feel connected to when I weave and create, and love for Te Taiao – the Natural World.
At Muri Aroha we want to share the beauty of Toi Māori with all others, and to tell our stories in a uniquely Māori way.
